ty.net/sessionPop.cfm?confid=126&proposalid=10299\n
As organizations exte
nd their data purview beyond the traditional boundaries and firewalls, ther
e is a growing desire to identify, classify, and repurpose data assets for
multiple purposes. At the same time, hybrid architectures bridge on-premise
s systems with cloud-based and hosted environments.
\n
Yet as th
e environment grows and the numbers and volumes of data asset increase, the
re is corresponding confusion and complexity in making these data assets av
ailable to the right individuals and systems. Who is responsible for publis
hing and syndicating data, and how can a community of users access shared d
ata without creating performance bottlenecks and consistency/synchronizatio
n issues?
\n
In this tutorial, we describe the concept of the <st
rong>virtual data lake, and how this concept can be used to classi
fy and catalog data assets, develop services for accessibility, and institu
te collaborate data governance to ensure compliance with data consumer expe
ctations. We look at a selected set of data sharing use cases, and then con
sider techniques for developing data services that support those use cases.
In addition, we discuss the information policies that must be operationali
zed to oversee and govern the virtual data lake environment.
\n
Attend
